| Application Notes | Additional Information: Reactiv against purified hirudine; no reactivity against normal human plasma in ELISA. The IgY fraction is isolated by a two-step PEG precipitation. procedure followed by ammonium sulphate precipitation. Background: Hirudin (P01050) is a highly effective and very specific anticoagulant which specifically inhibits formation of fibrin and activation of factors V, VIII and XIII, by forming irreversible, noncovalent 1:1 complexes with alpha-thrombin. Hirudin is a 65 amino acid polypeptide, 7 kDa protein, naturally originating from the medical leech Hirudo medicinalis. It is a very potent thrombin inhibitor. Antibody binding to hirudin inhibits the interaction with alpha-thrombin. |
